IL Road Workers Shot On The Job, Seriously Injured By Juveniles: Cops

DIX, IL — Two road construction workers were seriously injured on the job after being shot by juveniles, according to police.

The incident occurred about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday on Dix-Irvington Road at the Interstate 57 overpass in downstate Dix, about 9 miles north of Mount Vernon, police said. A flagger was struck in the back of the head and another worker who came to assist the flagger was hit in the chest, according to police.

Both were taken to a hospital and later transferred to receive treatment for injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, police said.

Law enforcement used an armored vehicle to compel two juveniles to exit a residence for questioning and complete a search warrant of the home in the 900 block of Adams Street, according to police. The juveniles were arrested, processed and released to guardians, and a high-powered air rifle was seized, police said.
