Illinois State Capitol Locked Down Due To Threat: Police
Illinois Secretary of State police conducted a sweep of the building Tuesday afternoon.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — After receiving notice of a threat Tuesday afternoon, the Illinois Secretary of State Police issued a lockdown of the Illinois State Capitol building "out of an abundance of caution," according to a 2:16 p.m. social media post from Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.
Police conducted a sweep of the building. Authorities have not said what the threat is. At 3:45 p.m., Giannoulias said the lockdown had been lifted.
"Thank you to our dedicated Illinois Secretary of State police officers for promptly ensuring safety for all," Giannoulias said.
