Illinois State Park Among Best Spots In U.S. To See The Changing Leaves
One Illinois state park made a list of the best places in the country to take in the fall leaves.
GRAFTON, IL — One of the best places in America to take in the fall colors is right here in Illinois, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac.
The publication recently included Pere Marquette State Park in downstate Grafton on a list of the most stunning spots in the U.S. to see the changing leaves, along with famed sites such as Acadia National Park in Maine and Ozark National Forest in Arkansas.
Pere Marquette is located about 300 miles southwest of Chicago, and fall color drives are popular along its wooded ravines and riverside roads, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The park is situated on bluffs overlooking the Illinois River and is a popular destination for hiking, camping, boating, fishing, hunting and horseback riding.

The autumn leaves at Pere Marquette are expected to peak around the last week of October, according to a fall color tracker from the Illinois Office of Tourism.
