It takes One Walk to fight T1D

Dear friends, I'm raising money for JDRF to transform the lives of the millions of people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). T1D is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. It strikes both children and adults and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure – yet. Your support of JDRF can help change that.

My older son has T1D for almost 14 years already. It took me a while to get used to the thought that my child has a disease that can't be cured, and that it has to stay with him forever. My biggest dream is to see my son diabetes-free. I hope that it will happen some day.

As you probably know, when you have T1D, your body stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Managing the disease is a constant struggle that involves monitoring your blood-sugar level, administering insulin, and carefully balancing these insulin doses with your eating and activity. Even with a strict regimen, people with T1D may still experience dangerously high or low blood-glucose levels that can, in extreme cases, be life threatening.

Scientific advances are being turned into therapies that are changing the course of T1D. And together, we have the power to drive these therapies to market as quickly as we can.
