Man, 54, Threatened Police With Crossbow Before Being Shot: State Police

DECATUR, IL — A Decatur man faces felony charges after he allegedly threatened officers with a crossbow during a confrontation with local police last month. The man was shot by police during the encounter, Illinois State Police said.

According to ISP, just before 9:30 a.m. on April 22, Decatur police officers were called to the 400 block of E. William Street for a report of an armed subject, now identified as Michael Boliard. Police found Boliard, who reportedly pointed a crossbow at police, Illinois State Police said Wednesday.

In response, Decatur officers fired their guns, striking Boliard, police said. Officers provided immediate medical aid at the scene, and Boliard was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

On May 5, he was released from the hospital and taken into custody.

He has been charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and armed violence.

He is being held at the Macon County Jail pending his first court appearance. While an arrest has been made, state police said the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could be forthcoming.
