ILLINOIS — As we head into a new week, Patch has rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend.

Police are asking for the public's help after a man was reported missing, days after he reportedly took an Uber to a nearby train station and then failed to arrive to visit family.

Meanwhile, firefighters battled two large blazes — an enormous tire fire and a fire at a building housing wood and recycling materials — in the suburbs.

He’s lucky to be alive,” Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police Sgt. Phil Wire said. It's the second serious fall since July, when a suburban man was killed.

Police said he reportedly took an Uber to a suburban train station at around 1 p.m. Oct. 7. He was reported missing Oct. 13.

Woman Charged With Attempted Murder In Shooting

A 45-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder in connection with accusations she shot and seriously injured a man last week. She's also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated domestic battery and obstructing justice.

Hundreds of tires were on fire in a vacant lot, causing thick black smoke that was seen for miles.

Arrest Made In Slaying Of Suburban Man

The arrest came a week after police responded to a report of shots fired and found the 42-year-old victim lying near the entrance of the home.

Building Destroyed After Blaze Involving Wood, Recycling Materials

The building had likely been burning for hours before firefighters responded but only became noticeable when the plastic canvas top, serving as a roof, burned away, the fire chief told Patch. The outbuilding housed discarded material that rose about 60 feet high. Firefighters were still at the scene the next morning, putting out hot spots.
