More Severe Storms Possible Wednesday For Chicago Area

Storms could bring severe weather threats including damaging winds, large hail and flash flooding.

Additional rounds of storms are possible on Wednesday, in the afternoon and evening hours, the National Weather Service shared.

"Any focused corridors of heavy rain, particularly if including hard hit areas from Tuesday evening, may lead to flash flooding," the weather service said.

The weather service said confidence is low in specific details for the afternoon storms due to the effects of ongoing Wednesday morning showers.

Most of the Chicago area remains under a flood watch until Thursday, as multiple rounds of showers and storms are expected through Wednesday evening. The weather service said elevated soil moisture is expected to increase susceptibility to flash flooding.

Here's a more detailed look at the weather through the end of the week, per the weather service:

WEDNESDAY: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 4pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 4 p.m. High near 74. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 10 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 a.m. Low around 62. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

THURSDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 7 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

THURSDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of thunderstorms before 7 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 52. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 10%.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 79. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 53. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
