Near-Record Heat Thursday Before 30-Degree Temp Drop In Chicago Area

A strong cold front will move through the Chicago area on Thursday night.

ILLINOIS — Temperatures could drop more than 30 degrees between Thursday and Friday as a cold front moves through the Chicago area. Near record warmth is possible on Thursday, which could have a high of 74 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

After the unseasonably warm temperatures Thursday, a strong cold front will move through the area on Thursday night, bringing rain and much colder temps for Friday, according to the weather service.

Friday has a high of 50 degrees, but temperatures could be as low as 38 degrees, according to the weather service. Temps on Friday night could get down to the 20s.

AccuWeather called for a high of 47 on Friday, and added that "the colder weather will linger into next week."

Winds will also gust up to 30 mph on Thursday and Friday, the weather service said.

The cold temperatures will stick around for the weekend, with some lake effect snow even possible for northwest Indiana on Saturday, according to the weather service.
