Nearly 1 Million Illinois Voters Have Already Cast Their Ballots

About 11 percent of the state's registered voters have cast an early or mail ballot for the Nov. 3 election.

Nearly 1 million Illinois voters have already cast their ballots for the Nov. 3 midterm election, representing about 11 percent of the state's registered voters, according to NBC News.

The network's Illinois election tracker, updated Wednesday, reported 965,964 mail-in and early in-person ballots cast. Another figure tracked separately — mail ballots requested — stood at 1,138,809.

NBC's data estimates that Democrats account for 62 percent of early voters, Republicans account for 31 percent and other voters account for 7 percent. Those affiliations are modeled by TargetSmart, rather than an official Illinois party-registration count, and do not indicate which candidates voters selected.

In Will County, 38,345 residents had voted through early voting and mail-ballot drop boxes, according to clerk's office figures reported by Patch Tuesday.

That subtotal included 29,921 early in-person voters and 8,424 ballots returned through drop boxes. The clerk's office led early-voting locations with 4,055 voters as of Monday afternoon, followed by Naperville Public Library's 95th Street location and Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook.

Early voting in Illinois continues through Monday, Nov. 2, although individual locations have different schedules. Voters can find election resources and their local election authority through the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Thursday is the deadline for election authorities to receive mailed requests for vote-by-mail ballots.

Completed mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received within 14 days afterward. Voters can also return ballots through designated drop boxes, following their local election authority's hours and instructions.

Eligible residents who missed regular registration deadlines can still register and vote through grace-period registration. Two forms of identification are required, including one showing the voter’s current address, and residents must vote when they register.

Election Day polls will be open Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
