Bridget Kwiatt submitted this photograph she took of an eagle at Independence Grove along the Des Plaines River. We've been receiving many eagle photo submissions in recent weeks. According to Illinois.gov, the state hosts over 3,000 wintering bald eagles, making it second only to Alaska for wintering populations in the U.S.

In honor of National Squirrel Appreciation Day earlier this week, frequent contributor Joe Kloptowsky, of Tinley, sent in this photograph he took in his backyard over the summer.
