Sales Tax Holiday For School Supplies Next Month In Illinois
The holiday will last Aug. 5 to Aug. 14.
ILLINOIS — Illinois is offering residents a break on back-to-school shopping this year with a new tax holiday.
The state’s portion of sales tax on certain items will be cut by 5 percent from 6.25 percent to 1.25 percent, according to the Department of Revenue. The holiday will last Aug. 5 to Aug. 14.
Qualifying items include clothes and shoes with an individual retail price of less than $125, such as jackets and school uniforms, as well as supplies to be used by students in the course of study, like book bags, calculators and notebooks.
