Security Boxes Added At 20 Illinois Schools To Combat Shootings
Security systems from Elgin-based company are being installed in schools across the country, including nearly 2-dozen in Illinois.

ILLINOIS —In an effort to combat school shootings, 20 Illinois schools have installed new technology as a way to quickly notify police of an active shooter situation, WGN reported. The schools installed the BluePoint Alert security system, which are blue pull boxes designed to rapidly notify law enforcement should those at a school or church find themselves in that situation, according to the news report.
According to BluePoint, one of the local schools with the new system is St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Chicago. Nearby St. Andrew Catholic School also has the system.
Currently, more than 150 schools across the U.S. have the quick security system in place.
