ILLINOIS — Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for the far northern suburbs of Chicago, according to the National Weather Service.

Main threats with the storms include wind up to 60 mph and pea-sized hail. A tornado is also possible, the weather service said.

Showers and storms are possible Wednesday ahead of a cold front, according to the weather service. As the cold front moves through, gusts could exceed 45 mph before easing toward evening, the weather service said.
AccuWeather also called for a "heavy, gusty thunderstorm," with damaging winds and heavy downpours.

A special weather statement has also been issued for most of the Chicago area, including Cook, Will, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Kendall and Grundy counties.
The weather statement warned of wind gusts up to 50 mph that could blow around loose objects and could create hazardous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles on north to south roads.
