Severe Storms, Flash Flood Threat Possible Tuesday For Chicago Area

The weather service said storms are likely to develop across parts of northern Illinois along a cold front on Tuesday afternoon.

ILLINOIS — Severe weather on Tuesday could bring wind damage, hail and a flood threat to the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said storms are likely to develop across parts of northern Illinois along a cold front on Tuesday afternoon. Storm coverage will be low, but some storms could be strong and have damaging wind gusts or severe hail.

"This activity is expected to wane with sunset early [Tuesday] evening," the weather service said.

Timing for severe storms is between 2 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, and timing for the flood threat is from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

More storms are possible late Tuesday into Wednesday, but severe weather is not expected. The weather service said heavy rainfall is likely, however.

There could be a localized flash flood threat late Tuesday into Wednesday due to these storms.

The weather service said that yet another period of severe weather is possible on Wednesday afternoon, especially south of Interstate 80. The main threat with those storms is damaging winds.
