Snow Totals For Chicago Area: Bitter Cold, Winds Continue

Snow may have ended across the area, but dangerous cold and high winds persist.

ILLINOIS — While the cold temperatures and strong winds will stick around for the weekend, the snow part of this winter storm has passed. The Chicago area does remain under a winter storm warning until 6 a.m. on Saturday, but the warning is for blowing snow that could result in near white-out conditions.

Most of the area saw a few inches of snow, although in La Porte, Indiana, 8.7 inches of snow fell, according to snowfall totals from the National Weather Service.

Snow and ice-covered roads remain across much of the area, according to the weather service. Blowing snow is creating low visibility, with wind gusts up to 50 mph.

The weather service advised drivers to allow for extra travel time, and drive slowly on snow and ice-covered roads.
