Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Chicago Area
The main threats with the storms will be damaging winds, flash flooding, and a few possible tornadoes, the weather service said.
ILLINOIS — Severe weather is possible Tuesday evening, as storms continue to increase in coverage, according to the National Weather Service.
Most of the Chicago area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until midnight. The weather service issued the watch for Boone, Bureau, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Henry, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kendall, Lake, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Putnam, Rock Island, Stephenson, Whiteside, Will and Winnebago counties.

Storms are moving south, and the main threats include damaging winds and localized flash flooding, the weather service said. A few tornadoes are also possible.

According to the weather service, "explosive" thunderstorm development is possible. Additional storms may arrive from Iowa after dark as well.
The weather service advised having multiple ways to get warnings, including some that wake you up Tuesday night.

A flood watch also remains in effect until 3 a.m. Wednesday. Flooding from excessive rainfall continues to be possible, the weather service said.
