Tornado Watch, Severe Storm Warning, Flood Watch In Effect As 2nd Round Of Severe Weather Hits Chicago Area

Another round of severe weather is moving across the Chicago area Wednesday night, including a tornado watch, severe storm warnings and a flood watch covering multiple counties.

As second round of storms move east, the weather service said, "primary hazards are damaging winds, a brief tornado or two, and localized torrential rainfall increasing the risk for flash flooding."

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 11 p.m. for counties including Kane, Kendall, Grundy and DeKalb.

Meanwhile, a severe storm warning is still in effect until 8:30 for La Salle and De Kalb counties, including the towns of DeKalb, Sandwich and Ottawa.

A widespread flash flood watch is in effect until 4 a.m. for counties including Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Will, Grundy and Kendall, as well as parts of northwest Indiana.

Affected towns include Oswego, Naperville, Des Plaines, Palatine, Joliet, Schaumburg, Evanston, Aurora, Mokena, La Grange, Yorkville, Bolingbrook, Orland Park, Oak Lawn, Wheaton, Lmeont, Minooka, Downers Grove, Oak Forest, Plainfield, Channahon and others.

A line of storms with rainfall rates that could exceed 1 to 2 inches per hour locally will move aross the area and could lead to flooding, especially in areas that received heavy rain earlier this afternoon, NWS said.

"Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks," according to the weather service. "Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded."
