Wintry Storm System Arrives Wednesday, Temps In The 40s For Illinois

Most of the area will get rain on Wednesday and Thursday, but areas to the north of Chicago could see a wintry mix.

ILLINOIS — Don't expect too much sun this week, as cloudy days are expected until the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather threat is also possible on Wednesday and Thursday across the area, with a wintry mix expected.

But first, Tuesday will be cloudy and dry, with a high of 43 degrees, the weather service said.

A storm system will move into the area on Wednesday, bringing rain, sleet and snow, according to the weather service.

Wednesday will have a high of 42, while Thursday will have a high of 46 degrees. Rain will develop and spread from south to north on Wednesday afternoon and continue into Thursday morning, according to the weather service.

For much of the area to the south of Chicago, rain is expected. For areas near Waukegan and Rockford, there could be a period of wet snow, which could cause some travel impacts, the weather service said.

AccuWeather gave a snow and ice outlook of "little to no accumulation" for Chicago on Thursday. The private forecaster said there could be "accumulating snow and slippery conditions not far to the north and west" of Chicago.

After that system moves out of the area, Friday will be colder, with a high of 34 degrees. It should be partly cloudy and dry, according to the weather service.
