McHENRY COUNTY, IL —More than $26,000 has been raised for a local nurse who has spent her career caring for cancer patients and is now battling the disease.

Lisa Moran was diagnosed with cancer in the past year and has "bravely fought through pain and disappointing cancer diagnoses" since and is focused on "making memories with her family and being positive," according to a GoFundMe set up to help raise funds for Moran and her family.

"When you think about 'heroes in nursing,' Lisa Moran should be at the top of your list. She has dedicated her life to caring for and nurturing people in some of their toughest medical battles. She's been their beacon of light in unsure waters," said Kelly Brierley, the organizer for a GoFundMe that has brought in $26,568 as of Monday evening. "Now, it's our time to be that for Lisa as she bravely fights against cancer to take back her own life."
