My family has rich history in Algonquin. My grandfather was born in an upstairs bedroom in the house located at Main and Railroad street, next door to what is now Vern’s Taxidermy. And my grandmother’s uncle was the telephone operator above the old soda shop, which is now Reese’s Restaurant. My grandma remembers playing up there with her cousins while her uncle worked when she was a little girl.
On Sunday morning we decided to go to Reese’s Restaurant for breakfast. Reese’s is located at 205 South Main Street in Algonquin. It had been a busy week of spring cleaning and I was really looking forward to someone else making breakfast and cleaning up afterward.
We arrived at Reese’s a little after 9 a.m. and were seated right away. We ordered our drinks—coffee for the adults and juice for the kids—and received a basket of mini blueberry muffins. The mini muffins are awesome! Cooked perfectly and just small enough for the kids to eat while waiting for their breakfast to arrive without getting too full.

My husband and I both ordered the Eggs Benedict with a side of hash browns. The eggs were cooked perfect. The yolk was wonderfully oozing when cut into, and it blended with the Hollandaise sauce in a magical way. The hash browns were cooked flawlessly–crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were not too greasy and not too salty.
Both kids ordered pancakes. My 6-year-old son, Logan, ordered a SpongeBob pancake while my 4-year-old daughter, Piper, ordered a flower pancake.

I was a little worried about Logan ordering a pancake with a face. My oldest son, Alex, had an issue as a small child with a pancake shaped like a dog. He was about 2 at the time and was eating at Reese’s with my parents, and refused to eat his pancake because it was staring back at him.
No worries these days, though, my little kids will eat just about anything. They both enjoyed their fun shaped food and cleaned most of their plates.
Reese’s is a small and cozy restaurant. Service is good, not quick, but definitely good. The food is outstanding. Bring a large appetite or a friend because the servings are huge. We give Reese’s Restaurant 4.5 out of 5 stars!
