MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 29-year-old Algonquin man who posted about a shooting at a music festival has pleaded guilty to a separate aggravated battery charge.

Daniel O. Susma has been sentenced to two years of probation for battering a 71-year-old female relative, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to the aggravated battery to a person over 60 years old last month.

Authorities say Susma struck the woman repeatedly in the face and also hit her arms and back, which caused red marks and bruises. He also placed his open hands around the woman's mouth and nose, which impeded her breathing, and scratched her and pushed her back.

In addition to the probation, Susma has been ordered to undergo alcohol treatment, drug addiction treatment, mental health treatment and to pay $1,724 in fine.

Authorities said that on July 6, 2022, Susma is accused of posting on Facebook and Instagram that there was going to be a shooting at the North Coast Music Fest, according to the Lake/McHenry Scanner.

Susma later told authorities he does not want to shoot anyone but he did want "to see a shooting so he could film it," according to the article. He mentioned North Coast Music Fest performer, Diplo, several times in his social media posts.

Thomas Pentz, who uses the stage name of Diplo, filed a stalking/no contact order in McHenry County Circuit Court against Susma last July.

A McHenry County judge ordered Susma to stay at least 500 feet from Pentz and his places of employment, including the North Coast Music Festival, and to not post anything harassing or threatening on social media or any public forum about the festival or Pentz.
