Algonquin's Village Manager Announces Retirement
William Ganek has worked as the village manager of Algonquin since 1992.

William Ganek, the village manager for the village of Algonquin over the past twenty years, announced Wednesday he would retire in early 2013.
Ganek, an Algonquin resident, took the job as Algonquin Village Manager in 1992 and during has tenure has seen the village grow from a population of 12,000 to 30,000.
The commercial development along Randall Road, including the Algonquin Commons, River Pointe, and Oakridge Court shopping centers, as well as the Algonquin Corporate Campus, were approved and constructed during his time with Algonquin.

Many of Algonquin’s parks, including Spella, Cornish, and Kelliher, were developed and financed utilizing grant funding under Ganek’s direction.
Ganek oversaw the construction of new village facilities and infrastructure including Algonquin's Village Hall and Police Department on Harnish Drive, the public works facility, water treatment plans and water treatment facility.

Ganek is credited with maintaining a balanced budget for the village during each of his 20 years as village manager and holding the village in a strong economic position. The village now has a property tax rate 7 percent lower than its rate in 1992, according to the press release.
“It has been an honor to serve Algonquin and the Board over the past 20 years. I’ve had the privilege to work with many outstanding people during that time.” said Ganek in the press release. “I look forward to working with President Schmitt and the Board during this transition period. The Village has a highly professional staff motivated to make Algonquin one of the best communities around.”
Ganek has worked in local government for the past 35 years. Prior to coming to Algonquin, Ganek worked as the Director of Planning with the city of Crystal Lake and a Senior Planner with McHenry County.
The Village has retained Voorhees Associates LLC of Deerfield, Illinois, to assist in the recruitment and selection for the next village manager for the village of Algonquin.
