Algonquin Woman Rescued From Fire Dies

Barbara Yerkes, 59, of Algonquin, died Friday -- a day after a blaze broke out at her home in Algonquin.

ALGONQUIN, IL — A 59-year-old Algonquin woman who became trapped in her home during a fire last week has died. Firefighters responding to the blaze at about 3 p.m. Thursday in the 0 block of Alice Lane in Algonquin had a hard time locating the woman due to "hoarder-like conditions" and the heavy smoke and fire inside the home, according to a news release from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.

The woman was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead Friday morning, according to authorities.

She has been identified as Barbara Yerkes, 59, and her residence was listed as the home where the fire broke out, according to a report from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
