Lake In The Hills Police Hosting National Night Out Community Cookout Aug. 4

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Lake in the Hills Police Department will host its annual National Night Out Community Cookout on Tuesday, Aug. 4, giving residents a chance to meet first responders, enjoy free food and learn about public safety programs, according to village officials.

The free family event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate. National Night Out is designed to build relationships between law enforcement and the community while promoting crime prevention, village officials said.

The event will feature a variety of activities, including a LifeNet helicopter landing and an opportunity to meet the flight crew, if available. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office will also present a live K-9 demonstration, according to village officials.

Residents can explore police, fire, SWAT and incident command vehicles, along with snowplows and other large trucks. The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, Algonquin Area Public Library, Parks and Recreation Department and other community partners will also participate.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet police traffic officers, recruiters, 911 operators and crime scene technicians, while learning about programs and resources offered by the department. Guests can also try DUI fatal vision impairment goggles, which simulate the effects of alcohol impairment.

Free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be available during the event, according to village officials. Parking will be available at Village Hall.
