Area Middle School Runners Gear Up for Sectionals

Marlowe Middle School track coach is hopeful that 25 to 30 of his runners will make it to state.

Area middle school runners will hit the track this weekend to compete for a chance at state.

The sectional meet will be held at McCracken Field, 3712 Kane Avenue in McHenry, starting at 9 a.m.

Marlowe Middle School Track Coach Ryan Frederick is hopeful a good number of his runners will qualify for the state meet in East Peoria on May 20 and 21.

“We are looking at 35 to 50 of the kids having a chance at state,” Frederick said.

The top two athletes in each event — or those that meet the qualifying marks set up by the Illinois Elementary School Association — will advance to state, said Brian Schweitzer, athletic director for McHenry Middle School.

Other schools participating in the meet include: Stanton School in Fox Lake, Big Hollow Middle School in Ingleside, Matthews Middle School in Island Lake, Johnsburg Junior High School, McHenry Middle School, Parkland Junior High School in McHenry, Nippersink Middle School in Richmond, John T. Magee Middle School in Round Lake, Round Lake Middle School and Wauconda Middle School.
