Arson Charge Filed Following Apartment Fire That Displaced 24 Families

An Indiana man faces charges for allegations he started the November fire at the apartment in Carpentersville.

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — An Indiana man has been charged with arson for allegations he started a fire at an apartment building in Carpentersville in November.

Garland McGhee, of the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Street in Gary, Indiana, has been charged with residential arson, arson to real and personal property and criminal damage with fire or explosives, according to police.

The blaze at 104 Meadowdale Court displaced 24 families.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene of the blaze but did not need to be transported to the hospital.

The blaze is estimated to have caused $2 million in damages to the apartment complex.
