Carpentersville Plans Nighttime 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony At Riverfront Park

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — Carpentersville will hold a nighttime ceremony Sept. 11 to mark the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in 2001.

The 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. ceremony at the new Riverfront Park, 155 S. Washington St., will feature two beams of light projected into the night sky as a tribute to those who died, according to village officials. Attendees will be able to walk along paths lined with full-size American flags and images from Sept. 11, while guest speakers, moments of reflection and candle votives will be part of the ceremony.

The village of Carpentersville said the event is intended to honor those who lost their lives, those who responded to the attacks and the lasting impact of Sept. 11 on the community.

"Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost. We honor those who answered the call. And together, we ensure that a new generation understands why we will never forget," according to village officials.
