Charges Filed After Shots Fired In LITH On Halloween: Police

A 60-year-old Lake in the Hills woman faces a reckless discharge of a firearm charge.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A 60-year-old Lake in the Hills woman faces a weapons charge after police received reports of gunshots fired during the early morning hours of Halloween.

Anita M. Gustafson, of the 500 block of Delaware Drive in Lake in the Hills, has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of marijuana plants and unlawful possession of marijuana in connection with the Oct. 31 incident.

Gustafson was arrested Thursday following an investigation into shots fired, which was initially reported at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the 500 block of Delaware Drive, according to a news release from the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

Authorities learned the shots were fired outside a home in the neighborhood.

Officers secured the home and requested assistance of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office multi-jurisdictional SWAT team. A search warrant was executed at the home.

Gustafson remained behind bars as of Friday afternoon on a $5,000 bail, according to online jail records. She is next expected in court on Tuesday.
