Conley Students Collect Thousands of Bottles, Cans to Better Environment

, 750 Academic Drive in Algonquin, has joined with PepsiCo and Waste Management to help save our Earth one plastic bottle or aluminum can at a time.

Students at the 3rd to 5th grade school have already collected over 110,000 bottles and aluminum cans.

Fifth grade students in Mrs. Michelle Kenefick’s class are well on their way to beat all the other classes in the school and bring in the most plastic bottles and aluminum cans. In one day, they brought in over 25 bags of bottles.

In addition, with the assistance of Mrs. Jeannie Ziller, students are also collecting tabs from beverage cans, soup cans, and pet food cans which are then donated to The Ronald McDonald House near Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

The Ronald McDonald House takes the tabs to a recycling center and receives an additional 5 cents per pound for the tabs. The money is then used to purchase items for the house such as milk, eggs, laundry detergent, and toilet paper, just to mention a few.

Community members and local businesses are encouraged to help the cause by collecting plastic bottles or aluminum cans for the school.
