Cost of Garbage Stickers, Carts to Decrease
A 14 percent decrease in the cost of garbage stickers and 22 percent drop for the cost of carts will start in September in Algonquin.
ALGONQUIN, IL — Village officials will begin a new contractor with their current waste hauler, Groot, in September, and Algonquin residents will see a price drop in garbage collection services because of it, according to a news release. With the new contract, sticker customers will see rates drop 14 percent from $3.50 per sticker to $3 per sticker, while garbage cart customers will have rates decrease 22 percent from $24 per month to $18.80 per month.
Curbside recycling service at no charge will continue for residents during the duration of the contract. Other services that will not change in the new contract with Groot also include the document shredding event and spring cleanup; with minor changes taking place to the curbside electronics recycling program, according to the news release.
In fall of 2018, the village issued a request for proposals for garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection services, in which Groot, submitted the lowest price acceptable bid.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome of the process” said Village President John Schmitt. “Residents will retain their choice for stickers or carts, realize meaningful cost savings, and have the same familiar service with Groot as the hauler.”
Additionally, the new contract with Groot will also provide an additional week of leaf and brush collection in the spring during the free leaf and brush collection periods.
