County Orders Algonquin Township To Fix Deteriorating Roads

ALGONQUIN, IL — The McHenry County Department of Transportation has ordered the Algonquin Township Road District to repair deteriorating roads in the Algonquin Hills subdivision after years of complaints from residents.

County transportation Director Joseph Korpalski issued a final order requiring Highway Commissioner Danijela Sandberg to repair potholes on several residential streets, finding the roads were not being properly maintained and that evidence presented by Sandberg was insufficient to show they were outside her jurisdiction, according to Shaw Local. The order covers Sweitzer, Cermak, Lund, Linden, Wilmette and Kenilworth avenues; Oakwood, Elmwood and Greenwood courts; Victor and Park places; and Kendall Street, with Oakwood Court the only road found not to need repairs.

The ruling comes after residents raised concerns about worsening road conditions, including a warning from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District that deteriorating streets could delay emergency vehicle access to some homes, according to the article.
