Cousins Charged With Murder In Fatal Shooting In Carpentersville

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — Two teenage cousins now face first-degree murder and attempted murder charges for opening fire at three people in Carpentersville last week, prosecutors said.
Alan U. Medina, 19, of the 100 block of Pecos Circle, and Jimmy Medina, 16, of the 200 block of Ensenada Drive, were taken into custody this past week.
Alan Medina was driving his vehicle in the 1 to 99 block of Robin Road at about 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 2, with his cousin, Jimmy Medina, riding as a front seat passenger in the vehicle. Authorities say one or both of the teens fired multiple shots in the direction of a parked vehicle, according to authorities.

One of the bullets hit a 17-year-old Carpentersville boy in the head. The car the teen was in was then driven to Birch Street where police found the 17-year-old boy lying in the road.
He was taken to the hospital where he later died, according to authorities.

A second person in the vehicle was hit by a bullet and is continuing to recover at a local hospital, and a third person was grazed by a bullet and was treated for a wound at a local hospital before being released. Two others in the vehicle were uninjured, according to authorities.
A GoFundMe set up by the family of the 17-year-old boy who was shot and killed identified the boy as Anthony Rios Montellano. He is one of six children of Jazmin Rios Montellano and her husband, according to the fundraising page.
Alan Medina was detained and will remain in custody until further order of the court. He is next expected in court on Nov. 15.
Jimmy Medina was taken into custody at the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center and is awaiting an initial court appearance, which is scheduled for Friday.
