D158 Aims For Oct. 19 Return For Youngest Students
The school district released its plan for getting students back into classrooms safely amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
ALGONQUIN, IL —District 158 is looking to get its youngest students back in its classrooms in the coming weeks. Superintendent Scott Rowe announced plans last week to implement a hybrid learning option for students in kindergarten through 5th grade starting on Oct. 19.
Under the plan, students will be divided into two groups: one group will meet in person on Monday and Thursday mornings while the other group will meet in person on Tuesday and Friday mornings. All students will be fully remote on Wednesdays.
Masks will be required, no more than 13 students will be allowed per classroom and desks will be spaced six feet apart.

During in-person days, students will return home during their lunch break and participate in asynchronous learning in the afternoon. On days when the students are fully remote, asynchronous lessons will be planned for the morning, and in the afternoon, students will join their teachers for remote synchronous lessons in math and literacy.
On Wednesdays, when all students are remote, there will be synchronous instruction in the morning and asynchronous lessons in the afternoon.
