Dining East of the River

Last Friday marked the end of another school year for the kids of District 300. My little guy, Logan, finished his first year of school so I let him pick where we went for dinner. He chose Nero’s Pizza and Pub, 300 Eastgate Court, Algonquin. Eastgate Court is off Route 62 on the east side of the river.

We arrived at Nero’s at about 7 p.m. and were promptly seated. The restaurant has a medium-sized bar on one side of the large room and booths on the other side.  There is a pool table, a couple of video games and many TV's tuned into sporting events to keep the kids and adults occupied while they wait for their food.

At Logan’s request, we ordered Beer Nuggets for an appetizer. The Beer Nuggets are served with a ranch dip, a cheese sauce and a marinara sauce.  The serving size is huge so we brought a majority of it home.

For dinner, Logan ordered Chicken Strips and Piper ordered a hot dog. The adults ordered a steak sandwich and a Robin. The Robin is like a Reuben – replacing turkey for corned beef. All of our meals came with french fries.  

Piper ate her hot dog quickly and said it was “awesome.” Logan, the self-proclaimed King of all Chicken Strips/Fingers/Nuggets, ate his fries but did not eat his chicken strips. He said he did not like them because of the breading, so I picked off the breading and he ate one. He usually loves the chicken strips at Nero’s, but at this visit, he was not feeling it. The hubby said the steak sandwich was great and my Robin was good. I was not feeling well, so I did not eat much of it, but what I ate was good.

Nero’s usually has a balloon guy on Friday nights and I think that was the reason Logan wanted to eat there. The balloon guy can make just about anything out of balloons and his creations are always amazing…but he was not there last week. The kids were pretty bummed, as they were really looking forward to seeing him.

Our service was top-notch. I mentioned to our waitress that I was not in the mood for iced tea or a Coke, so she made me a cherry Coke and it was delicious!

We give Nero’s Pizza and Pub 3.5 out of 5 stars!
