Dinner and a Show—Hibachi Style
Annie and her entourage are entertained and treated to delicious hibachi fare at the Kobe Japanese Steakhouse.
My 4-year-old daughter, Piper, calls “cook it by you” and in her four short years it has become her all-time favorite restaurant.
Kobe Japanese Steakhouse is located at 209 S. Randall Road in Algonquin, in the same strip mall as and JoAnn Fabrics.
The Asian restaurant provides multiple ways to enjoy Japanese cuisine – a romantic dinner for two, pulling up a chair at the sushi bar or a festive Teppanyaki experience. The inside of the restaurant is decorated in dark browns and rich reds while the walls are covered with pictures of celebrating diners.

We dined on Saturday night with my lifelong friend, Karen, and her family of four. Four adults and five kids ages 14, 13, 6, 6 and 4. I recommend making reservations before dining here.
Both families started out with sushi while we waited for our chef to get the hibachi grill ready.

My family loves sushi so we ordered a variety of sashimi and sushi rolls. Karen and her family are new to the sushi phenomenon and started out with a Spicy Tuna Roll. It was delicious. Every single bite.
Everyone in our party ordered a Hibachi style meal except my daughter, McKenzie, who ordered the Green Dragon sushi roll. Several of us had steak, a few had chicken and one lucky person in our party ordered the lobster.
Our meals came with onion soup, green salad with a ginger dressing, hibachi vegetables, shrimp appetizer, white rice, green tea and ice cream. Karen and her brood substituted fried rice for the white rice which was also cooked in front of us.
The food was fantastic. Everything from the soup to the green tea ice cream—there was not one thing we would've change about our meal. Our chef was extremely entertaining and kept us laughing throughout the entire meal.
The service at Kobe Steakhouse is fantastic—always there when you need a refill on your drink or if you drop a chopstick—but never overbearing. The menu is large, but not intimidating.
The kids' menu can be found in the regular menu and includes hibachi choices and two bento box options. My kids have never ordered a bento box but I did see a couple kids with a chicken nugget bento box at the grill next to us and it looked pretty interesting.
We all give Kobe Steakhouse 5 out of 5 stars. It was a fantastic meal and a fun show with great friends.
