As I mentioned in a previous column, I love the smell of barbeque because it reminds me of summer. Last week, I let my nose dictate where we were going to eat as it followed the amazing smell of barbeque into downtown Algonquin.
If you have ever been stuck in traffic on route 31 in Algonquin going east, west or south of route 62, you have probably smelled the wonderful aroma of located at 101 North Main in Algonquin.
We arrived at The Texan at about 7:30 on a Friday night. We placed our orders with the cashier in the entrance area, filled our cups at the drink station near the small bar area and found a booth large enough for the five of us.

The Texan is very causal and very family friendly. The employees are always quick to offer a happy greeting and a friendly smile.
We waited a while for our food due to a mix-up at the register (our order was marked to-go instead of dine-in), but as soon as the mix-up was noticed, our food arrived fresh and piping hot.

I am sure it comes as no surprise to my regular readers that my son, Logan, ordered the chicken strips with curly fries. My daughter, Piper, and my step-daughter, Allie, ordered the kids hotdog with curly fries. The kids’ meals came with a small cup of baked beans that Piper devoured.
My husband ordered the Porky which is a sandwich made with sliced and grilled sausage and topped with BBQ sauce and raw onion. He ordered his sandwich with steak fries.
I ordered a turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes. We also got an order of jalapeno poppers.
Our dinners were delicious. Logan did not leave on crumb on his plate and with the exception of a lonely hotdog bun, the girls cleaned their plates, as well. The turkey on my sandwich was piled about two and a half inches high and the mashed potatoes at the Texan are the best in the area.
We all enjoyed our meals at the Texan. We really enjoyed them. The food there is always fresh, the meats are top quality and the portions are perfect.
Amazing food, friendly service and casual atmosphere –we give The Texan Barbeque 4.5 out of 5 stars!
