Early Voting Opens In McHenry County

Thirteen early voting locations will open starting March 2 for voters wishing to cast their ballots before the March 17 primary.

Two new locations will be open for this election, giving voters even more flexibility to participate early if they wish and avoid longer wait times on March 17, County Clerk and Recorder Joe Tirio said. Voters can go to any location to vote, regardless of their home precinct.

“Early voting is by far the most convenient way to vote. Pick your place, day and time, and go vote when it works best for you. There is a historic attraction to voting on the day of the election, but what happens if you get a call from school to pick up your child, or you can’t get away from work when you thought you could, or the traffic is especially bad, or any of a million things that could prevent you from getting to the polls? Early voting gives you the opportunity to ensure your vote counts, regardless of life’s surprises,” Tirio said.

Four locations will open Monday morning in Woodstock, Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills and McHenry, with eight more opening Tuesday in Johnsburg, Harvard, Huntley, Cary, Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Marengo and Richmond. Another location will open up in McHenry starting Monday, March 9.

In an effort to encourage early voting to reduce congestion on the day of the primary, the County Clerk’s Office will hand out limited-edition commemorative “I Voted” stickers with a bust of suffrage pioneer Susan B. Anthony – this year marks the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.
