LEGO Machines & Mechanisms Workshop
This hands-on course provides students with an enjoyable way to enhance their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math by building and analyzing mechanisms, vehicles, and contraptions using the LEGO Technic building system. They will work as young scientists, engineers, and designers to investigate scientific and engineering principles while having the fun of building LEGO models. After making assumptions and predictions based on general engineering principles, the students will construct LEGO models intended to demonstrate these principles and observe if behavior matches prediction. The students will then be encouraged to reflect on their observations and consider possible redesigns if appropriate.
Lego Programs are now available at The Tutoring Center at 128 South Randall Road in Algonquin at 847-458-1005.
The 4-session class is entitled MACHINES AND MECHANISMS, and will meet 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays starting June 29 and ending July 27th. (No session 7/6). Anyone nine years old or older can enroll. Class cost is $149 per person and includes a Lego take home kit.
Projects and objectives vary with each class but will often include teaching basic engineering concepts and real world challenges. As students progress they will use math and science as they design, build, and test a variety of LEGO creations. Fun learning can increase your child’s self confidence.
Private sessions for individuals, groups can also be arranged.
