The company has filed for bankruptcy and is set to close 32 underperforming stores across the U.S.

ALGONQUIN, IL - The Gander Mountain in Algonquin, which opened in 2014 along Randall Road, is among 32 "underperforming stores" set to close, the company announced last week.
In addition to closing its unprofitable stores, the St. Paul, Minn.-based company has filed for bankruptcy and is looking to sell its profitable stores, according to a news release. Gander Mountain is expected to begin the closing process in coming weeks and closing sales could start as early as this Friday, according to court records.
In Illinois, a Gander Mountain in Champaign and Springfield will also close. Exact closing dates for the stores have not yet been released.

"Like many retailers, Gander Mountain experienced challenging traffic patterns and shifts in consumer demand resulting from increased direct-to-customer sales by key vendors and accelerated growth of e-commerce," according to the news release. "Despite aggressive actions to improve the efficiency of the company's retail operations and support functions, the underlying financial impact from underperforming stores and unproductive, excess inventory hampered efforts to create a sustainable path forward."
