Groot Announces Restrictions In Garbage Pickup

Due to impacts from COVID-19, the following changes apply to refuse and recycling service provided by Groot.

Due to impacts from COVID-19, the following changes apply to refuse and recycling service provided by Groot. These changes are being made to protect the health and welfare of employees and the public. Services may be further modified as the situation evolves, so please check our website and follow the Village on social media for the latest information.

Starting the week of May 11, Groot will be collecting bulk items, construction and demolition debris, white goods and e-waste. For the month of May these services will be restricted to one (1) bulk item per week.

As a reminder, the following changes continue to apply to Groot's weekly pickup service during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • All trash/refuse must be placed in a company-designated cart, a can with handles, or bagged. Recycling must be placed in a company-designated cart. Loose, un-contained items will not be collected.
  • The Spring Cleanup event, originally scheduled for April 4 and 11, will be postponed and rescheduled at a later date.
  • At this time, yard waste and recycling service are unaffected.
  • Groot is offering garbage sticker sales by phone at 800-224-1977 in addition to various retailers in the Algonquin area.
