Hip-Hop Poet Ariel Luckey to Speak at ECC Nov. 15

Luckey will participate in an all-college presentation weaving poetry, acting, dance, and hip-hop into an exploration of race and culture.

Nationally-acclaimed poet, actor and playwright Ariel Luckey is the next guest of the 2011-2012 Writers Center Reading Series on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Luckey will give two free presentations at the college, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

At 11 a.m. in the Advanced Technology Center Auditorium, Luckey will participate in an all-college presentation weaving poetry, acting, dance, and hip-hop into an exploration of race and culture. He also will perform a poetry reading at 7:30 p.m. in the ECC Arts Center, Room VPA 191D.

Luckey, of Oakland, Calif., weaves storytelling, spoken word poetry, dance, acting, and hip-hop music in compelling narratives of personal and political transformation. His hip-hop theater show, Free Land, and his first book of poetry and lyrics, Searching for White Folk Soul, have inspired and informed audiences across the country.
