Huntley Outlet Center Could Close by Next Year

Facing several vacancies and high fines for maintenance violations, the struggling mall could soon shut its doors for good.

HUNTLEY, IL - The Huntley Outlet Center, which has been struggling for years, could close by next year.

The 22-year-old mall is currently more than 50 percent vacant and village officials earlier this year identified more than 300 property maintenance violations at the center, which at the time was owned by Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc., according to th Daily Herald. Recent stores to close at the mall include Gap and Darna Furniture. And the violations at the mall could cost the center’s owner from $500 to $1,000 per day per violation.

Huntley Investment Partners LLC purchased the 279,000-square-foot mall, located at Interstate 90 and Route 47, in April and village officials said the owners are not renewing any leases at the outlet center, according to the Daily Herald.

"Based on where the retail world is going in general and based on some longtime tenants moving out of there, I do believe a re-purposing or redeveloping of the mall is certainly a strong possibility," Huntley Village Manager Dave Johnson told the Daily Herald.
