Kane Co. Board OKs Toll For Longmeadow Bridge

KANE COUNTY, IL -- The Kane County Board has approved an agreement to allow a toll bridge over the Fox River as part of the Longmeadow Parkway Corridor project, which, if enacted, would make it the "only non-expressway bridge in the state of Illinois," county board candidate Christopher Kious said. The Kane County Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority will be responsible for creating the toll system. The toll would be only for those crossing the corridor's bridge over the Fox River.

The county board on Tuesdayapproved a "memo of understanding," which details next steps for the toll system, including steps for how the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority would collect tolls and enforce toll violations on behalf of Kane County, according to the Daily Herald.

The Daily Herald reports there is still hope outside funding could cover the costs to repay $30 million in bonds for the construction and maintenance of the bridge -- and nix the need for a toll. But so far, that has not happened.

The 5.6 mile stretch of roadway in northern Kane County begins at Huntley Road, just west of Randall Road, and continues through Algonquin, Carpentersville and Barrington Hills before ending at Route 62.

Portions of the parkway are already completely, including the stretches of the project labeled A-1 and A-2/B-1 in the graphic below. Sections labeled B-2 and D are currently under construction. And section C, which includes a bridge over the Fox River, is expected to be fully complete by 2021.
