Lake In The Hills Keeps Ban On Backyard Chickens

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Lake in the Hills will keep its ban on backyard chickens despite a resident-led effort to allow hens in the village.

Katie and Brian Battaglia asked village officials to change the rules after a neighbor complained about the chickens they had kept for more than a year, according to Shaw Local. Village staff proposed allowing up to six hens per property, with 10 licenses available village-wide, but the plan also would have required permits, annual fees and inspections and prohibited roosters.

Officials cited concerns about noise, waste and chickens attracting predators such as foxes and coyotes to areas where children play, according to the article.
