Lake In The Hills Restaurant Owner Shot In Chicago

The restaurateur was shot on West Diversey Avenue on Chicago's Northwest Side, police said.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The owner of El Cochino and Bistro Wasabi in Lake in the Hills was fatally shot Thursday in Chicago, police said. Hundreds of people have posted heartfelt messages on Facebook mourning the death of Peter Rim, 46, who was shot on Chicago's Northwest Side around 6:45 a.m.

Rim was a passenger in a car driving west in the 4100-block of West Diversey Avenue, when an unknown SUV pulled up alongside and there was a "verbal exchange," Chicago police said. A suspect then pulled out a gun and fired shots into the car, according to police.

Rim was shot in the head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a Facebook post, Bistro Wasabi and El Cochino said he "affected so many lives" at the restaurants.

"Peter Rim passed away this morning surrounded by loved ones. His wild, fun, energetic, and loving legacy will live on forever," the post read. " We love you Peter Rim, more than words can describe. You affected so many lives here and every one here misses you so much. You are so loved. Rest easy Peter."

Rim's friends said he was returning from a birthday party when he was shot in the random attack, according to ABC Chicago.

The investigation was ongoing. No one was in custody.
