Library Seeks Applicants for Board Vacancy

Applications are now being accepted for a vacant position on the Algonquin Area Public Library District Board of Trustees.

Do you have a passion for the mission of public libraries? Are you looking for a way to serve your community? Then the Algonquin Area Public Library District Board of Trustees wants you! Residents of the library district interested in serving as a library trustee are invited to submit an application by 4:30 pm on Friday, July 22, 2016.

The Library Board is seeking civic-minded individuals with a passion for library services in their community to fill a vacancy created by the untimely passing of an elected trustee. The vacancy will be filled by appointment, in accordance with Illinois statute and the library’s bylaws.

To qualify to serve, an applicant must reside within the Algonquin Area Public Library District. A Petition for Nomination is not required for this appointment, which expires May 2017.

Prospective candidates should review the trustee requirements and complete the Application for Trustee Appointment, available at aapld.org or at either Library location. Applicants should submit a completed application to the attention of Stephen Bero, Library Director, at the Harnish Main Library, 2600 Harnish Drive, Algonquin, IL 60102 or via email at sbero@aapld.org.

The Algonquin Area Public Library District Board of Trustees serves as a liaison between the general public and the library. The Board has the legal authority and responsibility to see that the library is well managed, and that it operates in accordance the laws of the State of Illinois and the policies established by the Board itself. Duties and responsibilities include budget oversight, policy approval, long- and short-range planning, and appointment/evaluation of the library director. The Board of Trustees regularly meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Harnish Main Library.

The Algonquin Area Public Library District has 23,049 cardholders and serves more than 40,000 residents in a 30-square-mile area including Algonquin and portions of Lake in the Hills, Cary, and Barrington Hills.
