Lifelong McHenry Co. Resident Wins $50,000 in Illinois Lottery

Scott Husfeldt of Marengo plans to share his winnings with family.

MARENGO, IL - Scott Husfeldt, a lifelong Marengo resident, recently won a $50,000 lottery prize, Illinois Lottery officials said Monday.

Husfeldt bought his winning Powerball ticket at Express Lane, 308 E. Grant Highway in Marengo, according to a news release. The day after the Feb. 15 drawing, Husfeldt checked his numbers with the winning Powerball numbers published in his newspaper.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw that my numbers matched, so I went back to the store to double-check my ticket," he said.

He plans to share the windfall with his family.

“I play Powerball once in a while, and I always buy a ticket when the jackpot is really high,” Husfeldt said.

Express Lane received a bonus of $500, one percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
