Light of Christ Church Announces "Forward" in Faith Capital Campaign

Light of Christ building of new church and Ministry Center at Longmeadow and Sleepy Hollow Roads moves forward.

(Algonquin, IL) Light of Christ Lutheran Church (LOC) at 100 Hanson Road in Algonquin has decided to move forward with a capital campaign to construct a new Church/Ministry Center at the corner of Sleepy Hollow Road and Longmeadow Parkway. With a fundraising goal of $3.6 million, the new Church/Ministry Center will increase space by ~44% in Phase 1, and LOC expects to break ground by the spring of 2018.

Church council president Keith Sharlog explained that “Our ministries have outgrown our current facility at 100 Hanson Road and we have decided the time is right to move forward with construction of a larger facility. This campaign will continue to support our mission to invite people into Christian community, nurture them in a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ, so they can faithfully and joyfully serve Him. The church has vibrant adult and youth ministries and on an average weekend 500 people attend services. Most weeknights our current facility is filled to capacity with multiple groups making use of the space.”

For thirty two years, LOC has been ministering to the Algonquin area. It was in 1985 when 130 people first attended worship in a storefront building at 215 South Main Street. In 1987 a site selection committee moved to buy five acres of land where the church presently sits on Hanson Road and the facility was expanded in 1993. In 2003, task forces were formed to look at space issues and the congregation began the search for land. In 2006, members voted to accept contracts to purchase 18 acres of land at the corner of Longmeadow Parkway and Sleepy Hollow Road. In November 2007, LOC began a capital campaign to secure funds for completion of the land purchase and to begin saving for the building process. Over $2,300,000 was raised in that campaign.
