LITH Police Increase Patrols For Holiday

Special patrols are underway.

LITH PD: The Lake in the Hills Police Department and nearly 200 other law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois will be working around the clock through Thanksgiving and the remainder of the year to make certain that travelers are buckled up and driving sober. Special patrols will be conducted from Friday, November 16 – Monday, November 26 to crack down on alcohol and drug impaired drivers and reinforce seatbelt safety.

The goal of this high-visibility effort is to reduce motor vehicle crashes and resulting injuries and fatalities. According to IDOT, the statewide seatbelt usage rate is 95.2%, yet unbuckled occupants make up disproportionately large numbers of fatalities, representing more than 50 percent of people killed in motor vehicle crashes. Correct seatbelt use is the most effective way to protect vehicle occupants. Statistics show that nighttime driving comes with an increased risk for injury or death. Evening hours account for a higher percentage of impaired driving crashes, a higher percentage of fatalities, and a lower percentage of occupants wearing seat belts. Whether traveling across town or across the state this Thanksgiving, we ask that you and all of your passengers
wear your seat belt. It’s one of the easiest ways to ensure everyone in the vehicle arrives home safely. The Click It or Ticket/Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement effort is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
