LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — More stringent guidelines will be enacted starting this weekend at Indian Trail Beach in Lake in the Hills after village officials received complaints of overcrowding amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting on Saturday, non-residents will not be able to visit the beach unless they are accompanied by a Lake in the Hills resident.

In addition, a village staff member will be at the beach during normal operating hours to make sure no more than 50 people are at the beach at a time. The beach will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends, and no entry fees will be charged, according to a village of Lake in the Hills news release.

The new changes will be in effect on the weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, at the beach on Woods Creek Lake.

“We’ve heard the concerns of our residents and feel these changes will alleviate capacity issues and promote social distancing at our beaches,” said Interim Public Works Director Peter D’Agostino.

Fishing at Indian Trail Beach will continue to be prohibited and the boat storage area will still be
locked and accessible only to boat owners. Woods Creek Lake can be accessed for fishing at
Nockels Park and Echo Hill Park.

Butch Hagele Beach will not be staffed, but the Lake in the Hills Police Department will continue to
monitor and respond to calls about exceeded capacity limits at their non-emergency number, which is 847-658-5676, according to the news release.

Village officials said the beaches will be closed on days when the 50-person limit is not followed.

“We are grateful to our residents for their patience as we make changes during the COVID-19
pandemic and the Turtle Island improvement project. We always welcome their thoughts and
feedback,” D’Agostino said.

Residents are encouraged to call the Public Works Department at 847-960-7500 with any questions they have about these operational adjustments.
